Iran shines at Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes

Iranian filmmakers sweep all awards at Special Award section of the Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes in France.

Iranian filmmakers have swept all the awards at Special Award section of the 2nd edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes in France.

Directed and written by Amir-Masoud Aqababaeian, ‘Mermaid’ won the awards for Best Feature Film and Best Feature Screenplay.

Iranian film ‘A Baby with Red Socks’ directed by Khodadad Jalali won three awards for Best Director, Best Actress and Best Original Score at the French event.

The Best Short Film award went to Maryam Firouzi for ‘The Provisional Death of Bees’, Ali Kalthami received Best Documentary prize for ‘Wassati’, and Robabeh Rouhi-Samian grabbed Best Short Screenplay award for ‘Gandoo’.

The festival’s website published some other titles by Iranians among the official selections, including ‘An Unfinished Film for my Daughter Somayeh’ by Morteza Payshenas, ‘Panah’ by Ahmad Bahrami, ‘Wander About Me’ by Ghazaleh Soltani, ‘TAG’ by Amir Lashkari, ‘Angels Sound’ by Bijan Zarrin, ‘Le Café’ by Siavash Qamarzadeh and ‘Immortality’ by Mehdi Fard-Qaderi.

The festival’s jury panel is comprised of film score composer Kaveh Cohen, director and animator Ken Mora, director and producer Armand Mastroianni, journalist Sujoy Bosu, as well as Iranian director Belal Taheri.

Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes highlights a selection of best films at Hotel Barriere Le Gray d'Albion of Cannes.

The festival, dedicated to filmmakers from Middle East countries, aims to promote independent filmmakers and innovative works.

Being held in cooperation with Cineport International Media, the 2nd edition of the Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes is underway since November 25 and will wrap up on November 30, 2017.
